I smoke, everybody knows smoking is bad for you and I wouldn't advise any one to start, it's a filthy habit and addictive, that said: This draconian law should be altered as far as licensed premises are concerned and dealt with under the licensing act,
Designated Premises Supervisors / licensees who wish to provide an adequately ventilated room for smokers indoors should be allowed to do so provided they inform the public accordingly, e.g.: THIS ESTABLISHMENT PERMITS SMOKING then customers have a choice, if you DON'T SMOKE, DON'T GO IN or if you do go in keep out of the indoor smoking area.
Putting thousands of people in the drinks industry out of work and kicking 14 million smokers plus their friends out on to the street or in shelters is crass stupidity and a big vote looser, the last time we had shelters in this country was during the war.
Going to the pub and the consumption of alcohol is part of the English way of life, binge drinking and anti social behaviour has flourished because of political impotence, the problem can be solved, Home Office guide lines should be replaced with social education, targeted awareness, well defined procedures and structured penalties, all the tools are in the box, put them to good use, but hey why solve a problem when you can tax it.
Cigarette machines are going to be banned from public places and license premises, out door heaters are also going to be banned and its been muted that smokers will have to register and pay for a smoker identity card before they can purchase cigarettes, one government adviser said, "we haven't quite got round to knocking on doors to see if parents are smoking in front of their children" today's politicians are mad, why are smokers being persecuted, punished and bullied?
