Slavery

( THE SYSTEMATIC EXPLOITATION OF LABOR.)

Slavery was abolished over 100 years ago yet the principles and practices of slavery live on and are enshrined in the Public House Tied Tenancy System.

Being a lowly tenant for almost two years has been enlightening and educating to say the least.

In 2006 early 2007 the Labour government of the day supported by MPs from all parties decided to go to war with Breweries, Pub companies, drinkers and smokers.

The conflict kicked off with the Smoking Ban and the rebirth of shelters, the like of which has not been seen since world war 2, after all a war is not a war if you don't have shelters. Just to make life more difficult along came the credit crunch, the value of the dollar dropped through the floor and the price of oil, gas and electricity went through the roof dragging everybody down the drain. Public opinion turned against the government but the Breweries and Pub Companies (landlords) turned on the past providers of profit, Tied Tenants. Landlords dramatically increased the price of beer and tied products, flexed their corporate muscles and embarked on a Tied Tenant culling exercise. Publically throughout the industry the Landlords script was very much the same, blame it on the accumulative effect of the economic crisis. Gordon Brown, Government Ministers and MPs will not publically admit that the smoking ban drove the last nail into the coffin of thousands of Public houses because if they did, they know they know they will be sued. THE TIED TENANCY SYSTEM SHOULD BE SCRAPPED.
